What’s Your Purpose? Inspiration from Leadercast

  • 2 min read

Sometimes you just need a pep talk. That “win one for the Gipper” speech that gets you fired up. Mine came through Leadercast Women hosted by the RSC@OKC Innovation Station. Through the nine national speakers and the panel discussion featuring local leaders, we were challenged to find our purpose. MANY takeaways and rich nuggets of inspiration. I found these to be the top ten: Are we curious enough to find something bigger than us to make an impact? Find your purpose. ~ Molly Fletcher Are you curious enough to ask tough questions of your previous clients, of previous sponsors, of previous volunteers? It…

Milestone – 300th Blog Post

  • 2 min read

Reached a milestone this week – my 300th blog post. By the way, I actually said that correctly – “blog post” – as my friend Sheila clarified recently:  I could have either ignored the milestone and kept going with posts, or recognize the watershed moment. Obviously, I chose the later. Please join me on this retrospective. These musings started when I was the chair of the Travel Industry Association of Kansas board. I would summarize board meetings and educational seminars. I then started sharing other marketing tips. Some were business in general. Such was the first post of record. Others…

You’ll Break A Third of These…

  • 3 min read

…if in fact you make these Resolutions! New Year! New Start! New Hope! A friend on Facebook said it best – ‘so far 2017 feels just like 2016.’ That is unless we do something about it right!? Sure resolutions are cliche but from time to time it’s nice to reflect and start a new. Here’s the resolutions I hope you join me in making this year: 1. Take Care of Myself. Exercise more. Just walk to lunch once a week! Eat better. Drop the roll and grab some fruit. Get that massage you’ve always wanted. Heck, schedule the visit to…

We see great quotes all the time. #MondayMotivation is a trending hashtag each week. Inspiring, motivating quotes from our leaders and heroes are like caffeine. They give us that boost of energy to work harder. Be stronger. Dream bigger. Some have been so meaningful I’ve either grabbed a screenshot or written them in my calendar/journal to remember them. To help kick-start your (and my) 2017, I’ve compiled the top 15 from 2016. (I couldn’t stop at 10…)   May you have a blessed and prosperous 2017! For more positive inspiration, (and marketing assistance,) follow us on either of our social media…

A Small Business is Like Running a Half-Marathon

  • 4 min read

I recently completed a half-marathon. It was my, I don’t know, ninth or tenth half marathon. This one was special as it was the first one after a long time off due to an injury. (Hamstring.) During my drive home, partially in the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas, I reflected on the event and the training up to the event. I found there were many similarities to the training for and running of the half-marathon and the starting and operating of a small business. Please allow me to share. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. This cliché is used frequently in many settings.…

What You Do When You Lose The Big Client

  • 3 min read

I lost my biggest client! For some reason, I had the mindset that this one was going to be with me / the company for a very long time. So when he emailed notifying me of his 30-day notice, it hurt. No, really, it hurt BAD! I was in a funk for a couple of days! We have all been there – a large depositor changes banks, a large conference goes to another city, a large company uses another supplier. It stings! But, as I realized late that second day, we have two choices, wallow in our sorrow, or buck…
