Tourism professionals at Convention and Visitors Bureaus – CVBs (or Destination Marketing Organizations – DMOs) are implementing some innovative programs to increase visitation in their destinations. We call them Tourism Best Practices, named one of the “Top 15 Tourism Marketing Blogs And Websites To Follow in 2018.”
Destination development is often only considered development of an attraction, way-finding signage, etc. Miami is expanding destination development to include workforce through the HEAT Program Hospitality Employees Advancement and Training.
South Florida hotels get the qualified local cooks they desperately need, while residents of some of Miami’s poorest communities get good paying jobs with benefits.

The Tourism Talks are small group discussions with varying topics to help businesses attract more tourists.

Finally, in December it was Madison (WI) CVB’s Big Bundle Up program which gave away 200 coats! In January, Temple (TX) CVB challenges residents to log 1 million steps as part of the iResolve Step Challenge. It’s part of the bureau’s Live Well Initiative to strengthen Temple’s brand as a wellness community.
