When I speak, invariably, one of the first questions I am asked is “how many times should I post, tweet, send and email…” whatever we may be discussing at the time. The short answer is frequently. To help with many of the marketing programs you should be updating or checking regularly, we’ve prepared this handy-dandy list.
Brand – Yes, you should monitor your brand. What are people saying about you? Set up Google Alerts to monitor your store name, attraction or destination. You’ll get an email daily. Will only take 2-3 minutes to peruse the headlines if there are any.
Website – Sorry. Your website is never done. Without getting into all the search engine spiders, crawlers and bots, you need to be updating content on your website regularly. At best, weekly. At minimum, monthly. Target 350 words monthly through your blog.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) – proper SEO work should be done frequently. Ideally, monthly. At minimum, every six months.
Email Marketing – with one of the highest ROIs of any marketing initiative, email marketing should be a part of your strategy. Target a monthly campaign. If you have the content, click send twice a month. Open rates and unsubscribes will dictate if you’re sending too frequently.
Social Media – Nothing can look worse than a social media account that hasn’t been updated. Here’s some targets:
- Facebook – 1 per day; minimum 3 per week
- Twitter – up to 14 per day; minimum 3 per day
- LinkedIn – 1 per day; minimum 3 per week
- Instagram – 1 per day; minimum 3 per week
- Pinterest – 2-3 per week
- YouTube – 1 new video a month
Actually, on social media, the worse offense is when someone tags or mentions you, comments or engages in any way and that engagement is not recognized. Check your notifications daily. Should only take a few minutes. Search for your brand every other day. Like a comment or post. Reply with a ‘thank you.’ Acknowledge their engaging with you.
Finally, review websites, on TripAdvisor, Yelp, Review Spot, and all the others, people are talking about you. Are you addressing their concerns or acknowledging their praise? Check your accounts daily or every other day and thank them for the kind words or offer to rectify their issue.
With this list, you will be able to schedule your time, be aware of your brand, keep your website and social media fresh, and keep your brand in front of your customers.
